National Service framework (NSF) for children, young people and maternity services (2004)
The National Service Framework (NSF) is the central plan for improvements in services for children.
NSF Core standards
Standard 3 makes it clear that the views of children, young people and families should be valued and taken into account in the planning, delivery and evaluation of services. Particular effort should be made to ensure the participation of children and young people who are often excluded.

Local Improvement Networks (LINks)
LINks are a key aspect of Patient and Public Involvement in health and social care services. They are run by members of the public with support from a local independently agency. Covering health and social care services for adults and children their role is to find out what people want, monitor local services and to hold services to account.
Public and Patient Involvement in the NHS (2008)
A BMA publication setting out factors which make ‘public and patient involvement (PPI)’ work well: Organisations working with young people on health need to ensure that young people are able to express their views through opportunities specifically created for young people as well as in formal PPI structures designed for everyone such as the Local Involvement Networks (LINks).
Our Health, our care, our say: a new direction for community services (2006)
A 2006 White Paper which stressed that health service users should influence commissioning. Services commissioned through Children’s Trusts should be informed by the local Children and Young People’s Plan which must have been informed by the views of children and young people.
A new package to develop local staff to support and train young people to conduct objective assessments of local services and support recommendations for service improvements.
