Young Children’s Voices Network (YCVN) has developed a range of courses to support practitioners and those in strategic roles to develop practice in listening to young children. All courses are facilitated by experienced trainers supported and assessed by NCB, and provide participants with resources to support the training and ongoing development. Options are available to local authorities (LAs) supporting early years settings, and direct to settings.
Listening as a way of life – In your early years setting
YCVN now offers a new more affordable way to support practice development. This is aimed at groups of practitioners in a shared locality and is designed to provide an opportunity to receive training to enhance existing practice and to plan next steps forward for individual settings.
One day course for 8-12 participants facilitated by one trainer
£1200 (excluding venue + catering costs which are arranged by the setting)
The course aims to inspire and enable practitioners to listen to young children and involve them in decisions which affect their lives, through everyday practice.
Course Objectives:
- To understand the benefits of listening for children, practitioners, parents and early years services
- To identify challenges to listening and ways of overcoming these
- To explore the different ‘languages’ through which children communicate and ways in which they can help children to express their ideas, feelings and preferences
- To reflect on their current practice and plan how to develop children’s involvement in the design, development and delivery of early years services
