What happens when listening to children's perspectives becomes enshrined in legislation?
This paper is based on case studies of local authorities' responses to recent legislation to listen to young children's perspectives. The Childcare Act 2006 places a duty on local authorities in England to take into account children's views of the services they receive. Two Case studies have been drawn from a development project, the Young Children's Voices Network co-ordinated by the National Children's Bureau.
This paper discusses the theoretical, ethical and methodological challenges encountered in attempting to act on children's perspectives in this way.
A Paper presented at the 18th EECERA Conference in Stavanger, Norway September 2008 by Alison Clark, Roehampton University, London, England and Lucy Williams, National Children's Bureau, London, England.
