Young people have their say at European Youth Week 2011

European Youth Week (May 15-21) is an opportunity for young people to get involved in hundreds of events going on all over Europe including political debates, youth work and voluntary activities. This year’s European Youth Week is a highlight of the EU Youth Strategy, which includes a commitment to greater youth participation for children and young people across Europe.

Young people can get involved through ‘structured dialogue’, an ongoing cycle of discussion between EU policy-makers and European children and young people.

During the European Youth Week flagship programme in Brussels, the structured dialogue will take the form of six workshops, all aiming to get input from 140 young people and national officials.

Head of the European Commission’s Youth Policy Unit Sergej Koperdak explained: “European Youth Week represents the culmination of an entire cycle of dialogue with young people across Europe that spans one-and-a-half years and three EU presidencies. It gives young people a forum to share their opinions with policy-makers first-hand, in a highly structured way.
