Young people challenge politicians to improve their lives in General Election Manifesto

The British Youth Council (BYC) has launched their General Election manifesto.

Our Parliament, Our Vision details five key changes that young people want politicians to make to improve their lives. The manifesto was created with over 600 online submissions received by young people letting MPs and prospective parliamentary candidates know what they want ahead of the upcoming General Election. The proposals were debated and then shortlisted by 250 young representatives from around the UK and then voted on with five priority actions chosen at the BYC annual meeting.

The five priority actions in the manifesto are lowering the voting age to 16, support for a national youth transport card that offers young people a third off public transport fares, support to create an equal national minimum wage for everyone over 16, keep the promise to end child poverty in the UK by 2020 and to invest in comprehensive mental health services for young people.

Young people can pledge their support to the manifesto or take part in campaign activities by the BYC on the manifesto including meeting with their local parliamentary candidates and asking them to pledge their support or organising a youth debate in their local community in the run up to the General Election.
