Young London Matters Launched

Children and young people from across the capital met this week with the Young People’s Minister Beverley Hughes MP to launch a new Young London Matters initiative.

The event brought together young people from across all 33 London boroughs to discuss the inequality that young people in the capital face. The initiative aims to give London’s young people the unique chance to put their ideas forward on how public services can improve their lives and help them fulfil their potential.

The challenging issues they will address and focus on:

  • improving access to mental health services;
  • reducing the numbers of teenage pregnancies;
  • improving the attainment of vulnerable children;
  • supporting boroughs in delivering improved joined-up services for children and young people.

Beverley Hughes, MP said, "London is a great city. It's a city of immense cultural heritage, of brilliant diversity, of breathtaking innovation, and of amazing talent.  It is our duty to make sure that London's children benefit from these things. That they're not left out because of poverty; because their health is at risk; because they fear for their safety. This is no more than young Londoners deserve. This is no more than we are capable of giving them."

The launch took place at the Roundhouse in Camden and brought together a range of celebrities, including  the winner of ‘The Apprentice’, Tim Campbell and actress, Patsy Palmer.
