NCB congratulates Manpreet Darroch, 21, who has been honoured as a young leader for his innovative campaign ‘Tune into Traffic’. Manpreet, as associate trainer at NCB, was recognised as a 2010 YouthActionNet Global Fellow at an awards ceremony in Washington DC. He has been identified as part of a new generation of socially-conscious global citizens who create positive change in their communities and countries.
Manpreet was part of a six month trainee associate programme run by Participation Works for young people between 16 and 25 to become "co-trainers". Participants in the programme now deliver Participation Works training as paid training associates. Participation Works also developed a resource which looked primarily at how organisations support and develop young people to work as partners to design and deliver training.
Tune into Traffic aims to reduce the number of young people killed on UK roadways each year. With more young people wearing headphones while walking, Manpreet decided to focus his campaign on the dangers of listening to music while crossing the street. The campaign educates young people about road safety issues by using creative methods including outreach in schools and maximising online presence.
