National Youth Agency Engagement Network finishes pilot training phase

Young people from the National Youth Agency's Engagement Network were in London recently to take part in a residential as well as organising a presentation to the Local Government Association who fund the project. The NEET young people also met with other workers and young people involved in similar advocacy projects including UK Youth Parliament and the Greater London Authority's Peer Outreach Team.

National Youth Agency (NYA) Engagement Network have developed a process to support services and local authorities in providing best practice around NEET provision. A group of young people advise strategic managers on the provision for young people who are NEET or at risk of becoming NEET. They also work alongside local authority staff to set up and train a steering group for their local authority of young people who have been or are at present NEET.

Fiona Blacke, Chief Executive commented "This is a really exciting project for the NYA to be involved in and one that can potentially make a huge difference to the expectations of young people across the country."

The initial pilot phase is now at an end but their are plans to recruit a further 100 young people from around the UK.

NYA are also keen to recruit bloggers to their website to capture young people’s experience of provision they have been involved in and would like to know about life stories of how young people become NEET, what provision is available and what doesn’t work or hasn’t been helpful. Posts from bloggers will appear on the NYA website.
