Mediabox fund opens for youth-led projects to explore community cohesion

Applications are now open for round one of the Mix Mediabox fund. Organisations can apply for grants starting from £5,000 - £20,000 to develop youth- led media projects that explore the theme of community cohesion.

Mediabox offers funding for 13-19 tear olds to get their voices heard through creating their own media projects. The Mix Mediabox funding strand is aimed at organisations that bring together young people from diverse economic backgrounds, faiths or geographic areas to work on a media project. The funding will provide young people with the opportunity to explore issues around identity, diversity, sense of belonging in their community and to work with older members of their community, to create media projects to promote community cohesion through encouraging communities to gain a better understanding of each other.

The fund is open to established youth and or media focused organisations. Mediabox is actively encouraging applications from areas of England that were under-represented in the last rounds. These are the North East, the East of England and Yorkshire and Humberside.

The grant team at Mediabox will be offering application support and advice on how to find media professionals to facilitate projects.

Mix Mediabox is run by a partnership between the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) and the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG).

Applications for round one of the funding close on Monday the 21 September 2009.
