Involvement of children and young people in LINks

National Children's Bureau Voluntary Sector Support Team has written a report that aims to measure and improve the levels of children and young people involvement within LINks.

Local Involvement Networks (LINks), the local organisations tasked with ensuring that all members of the public have a say in their health and social care, are struggling to involve children and young people in their work.

The report shows that although a handful of LINks successfully involve children and young people in their work many only manage it in a low-level way, whilst others fail to do it at all. A variety of barriers to involvement, offered by LINks staff during interviews and at National Children's Bureau (NCB) events are considered in the report. NCB makes recommendations within the report for future improvements and urges the government to take these points into account in the light of the transition to HealthWatch.

LINks’ involvement of children and young people
This research was commissioned by NCB to investigate the extent of LINks’ involvement of children and young people. Both quantitative and qualitative methods were used: a survey of all 150 LINks, which received 52 valid responses; in-depth interviews with 10 LINk workers; and analysis of the feedback from events run for LINks by NCB.
