International youth participation resources from Participation Works

Participation Works has launched a new topic area based around youth participation work outside the UK.

Young people have a right to have a say on decisions that affect them, and in our globalised world the decisions that affect young people in the UK are often made at an international level – in Europe, at the UN, through the Commonwealth, at the G8 and G20 Summits, at issue-based forums on employment or climate change. The outcomes of decisions can also be more effective if young people are involved in making them.

Within this topic area are pages dedicated to the International participation work of Participation Works partners British Youth Council and Save the Children

On Thursday 12 August 2010 the United Nations launched the International Year of Youth: Dialogue and Mutual Understanding, aiming to generate attention for youth participation and youth development at local, national and international levels. The Year provides the opportunity to increase commitment to youth, promote youth participation and enhance inter-cultural dialogue and understanding among youth.  In support of the International Year of Youth, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon added: "Youth should be given a chance to take an active part in the decision-making of local, national and global levels."

Have a look at the resource in our International Participation topic area.
