Applications open for the 2010 Youth of Today Fellowship

Young people aged 13-19 years old will be able to apply for the opportunity to develop their leadership potential through the Youth of Today Fellowship programme.

The Youth of Today are currently looking for 300 young leaders to join the programme in 2010. The Fellowship has been set up to identify 600 fellows from a variety of leadership backgrounds and provide them with training, mentoring, funding and networking opportunities. 300 young leaders have been recruited so far in 2009.

The Fellowship will include opportunities for young leaders to work together in local groups to take action and demonstrate leadership through an exciting programme of training, support and networking opportunities. The local groups will meet at least twelve times over the year. The young leaders will also attend a summer residential with other fellows from across the country to explore, share and celebrate youth leadership.

The fellowship programme will also include the opportunity to get involved in public speaking through presentations and debates on local, national and global issues, team building projects with local delivery partners and exploring how they can influence local leaders to adopt new bills and policies.

Fellows will also have access to an exclusive social networking space allowing them to chat to their local group members and other Fellows across the country and access shared materials and documents. They will also complete an online learning log of their experience of being a fellow which can be used for job applications and in UCAS personal statements.

Speaking about their experience of the programme a Tyne and Wear Fellow said, “I thought it was a fantastic opportunity, for that it gave me a great learning curve into society, how it is diversifying, as well as learning about team work and leadership.

Applications to the fellowship programme close on Friday 26 February 2010. Further information including the registration form can be found on the Youth of Today website. Successful applicants will be appointed to the Fellowship in  March 2010.
