Yorkshire & Humber Network

At a regional level the Youth Work Unit – Yorkshire and Humber (YWU) has for sometime co-ordinated a Voice, Influence and Participation (VIP) network of those interested and undertaking work with young people, both voluntary and statutory. More recently we have also co-ordinated a Youth Opportunities Fund group and UK Youth Parliament.

The Participation Workers Network in the region - PWNYH - draws from all of these groups but the network also extends to those who work with children as well as with young people and from various sectors. There has also been a particular focus through the YWU’s Voluntary Youth Organisation’s Network, VYON, on the third sector.

PWNYH- is largely an ‘e’ group, with a continuous flow of information being sent to members. In addition, there are a couple of events each year with external speakers offering briefings and training to participants. Workshop sessions have also been offered at VYON and YWU conferences and regular items on VYON quarterly meetings.

In addition, PWNYH working with network members produced a resource kit to help members wanting to involve children and young people in workforce issues.

Case studies of good practice across various ages and sectors were also gathered and a booklet ‘Making a difference’ was produced and distributed widely across the region to advocate and promote involvement activity.
