The contract for the development of a Participation Network in this region has recently been awarded to the Youth Advocacy Participation Project (YAP) based in Brighton and Hove. YAP have engaged freelance Participation Manager Melanie Parr, who was heavily involved with previous participation networking in the region, to deliver this contract. The South East Youth Partnership will also provide support by being a member of the steering group and ensuring promotion of the Participation Network across the region.
There is a database of approx 40 Participation Workers in the region following on from recent PWNE events, and a lot of interest in the development of a regional network. Some ‘hotspots’ of participation are clearly emerging in areas such as Brighton, Milton Keynes (in particular the Open University Children’s Research Centre) and East Sussex. Many workers are already meeting regularly as a network and will to formalise this in the coming months.
