Introduction
Save the Children is committed to protecting children's rights and the full implementation of the UNCRC. Within this context our work and resources in the UK will be focussed on the fight to end severe and persistent poverty. We continue to push forward with our campaign to end child poverty in the UK, building on the progress we have achieved to date.
3.8 million children live in poverty in the UK today - one in three. London is one of the wealthiest cities in the world yet over half the children living in Inner London are in poverty. This is a shocking figure. But child poverty is not inevitable. Progress has been made and we need to maintain pressure on the Government, and the other major political parties to ensure they keep their promises to the millions of children experiencing poverty in the UK today.
The 4 in10 London project aims to improve services for the 600,000 children in London living in poverty by:
- Effecting policy change in London by undertaking research and analysis and gaining public support for solutions to tackle child poverty
- Building the capacity of 500 voluntary and community sector organisations to engage in efforts to end child poverty in London
- Ensuring 32 London Boroughs play an active role in ending child poverty.
The postholder will support the 4in10 staff with the administrative and logistic work of developing and maintaining the 4in10 network, and of delivering 4in10’s capacity building projects and activities.
