North West Network
The Participation Workers Network – North West (PWN-NW) was launched at a conference for Participation Workers in July 05. The network is coordinated by the North West Regional Youth Work Unit which also coordinates work for UKYP in the region, and has also recently been awarded the North West Participation Works Contract. PWN-NW has a steering group, drawn from the membership who strategically drives the regional initatives.

Since it started in July 2005 PWN-NW has held 2 conferences supporting and promoting good practice in children and young people’s participation and produced a Glossary of Terms (Words Matter) aimed at dispelling some myths surrounding terminology and raising awareness about participation.

The work plan for 06-07 has so far included 5 practice-sharing seminars in partnership with Lancashire (Beacon Authority for Positive Youth Engagement), and a third conference. A Circles of Influence event also took place with GO-NW in January 07.

PWN-NW is also working with Government Office North West to develop young people’s involvement internally and in the context of influencing regional policy.
