PWNE Annual Conference October 06

In 2006 the annual PWNE Conference focused on the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). Over 200 Participation Workers attended the all day conference at the Barbican Centre in London.

The morning session included a passionate debate about children's rights from different ends of the spectrum - those who felt that the UNCRC was the bedrock of their participation practice, and those who struggled to get it adopted in their areas and had discovered other ways of promoting children and young people's participation. Please see the presentations below for more views on this issue.

This sessions also included some interactive voting, the results of which can be downloaded in two powerpoint files

Smaller groups followed on from this session and continued to debate the impact of the UNCRC on their practice, as well as wider issues currently affecting Practitioners.
Delegates spent the afternoon in workshops designed to give them information and skills related to securing new funding for participatory projects.

Finally the conference artist, Andy Siddall, displayed his work. You can view the 8 drawings illustrating discussions about participation practice below.
