Awards Open For Young People that Have Helped Others In Their Community

The British Red Cross’s Humanitarian Citizen Awards for young people are now open.

The awards celebrate the difference made by young people to the lives of others.

Any young person aged 25 or under that has made a contribution to help someone else or others in their community can enter the awards.

Speaking about the award Frankie Hitie from the charity’s schools and community education department said, “Ordinary young people can achieve extraordinary things. That’s why we want to hear from anyone who knows a young person, or group of young people, whose actions have had a positive impact and brightened someone’s life.”

Winners of last year’s awards included a team of Red Cross volunteers from the Isle of Skye and Lochalsh young carers project. The young volunteers all have caring responsibilities at home yet they also teach first aid skills at schools and their local young carers project and also regularly volunteer as first aiders at public events.

Nominations for the awards close on the 26 September. Young people will judge the nominations and decide who will receive the awards, which will be given at the awards ceremony to be held in November.
