Media Project Gives Young Londoner’s Opportunity To Have Their Say on Youth Provision

An exciting new media project for young people in London, run by Tower Hamlets Summer Uni will give them the opportunity to get their voices heard on youth provision.

Reel Change will enable young people aged 13-19 in the capital to produce, promote and exhibit a cutting edge documentary focussing on their priorities for change in youth provision following the £79 million London youth offer announcement in March this year. Young people will have the opportunity, through the documentary, to inform the final roll out of the Youth Offer by giving their views on issues facing young people in London and how they think money should be spent on youth services in their Boroughs to improve  outcomes for them.

The courses are vocational and will give young people the opportunity to gain hands on experience in media, film production and marketing working with industry professionals. The six courses are:

· Film and television production
· Journalism
· Web communications
· Events management
· Marketing
· Public speaking

The six training courses will take place from now until September. The journalism, marketing and web administrator courses have already started preparing the young people on them to promote Reel Change and the final documentary. Enrolment for the TV and film production, events management and public speaking courses will open later this month for young people to make the documentary and stage the final screening event.

Summer Uni London particularly welcome applications from young people who are from black and minority ethnic groups or those currently not in education, employment or training.
